ARCHITECTURE

"To become a real Architect, you must be humanitarian and an empath. It's not about the ego of being able to design and build cool "stuff", it is about having integrity and offering people good quality of life." ~ S.P.M

ACCOMPLISHMENT:

In the various phases of this program, students will receive an introduction to the basics of Architecture. This includes studying the fundamentals: Form, Space, Order, Elements of Architecture, the Design Process, Materials, Building Structure Types and Systems.

The goal is to prepare students for the workload they will be encountering in college by teaching them how to manage their time to meet deadlines. This experience will help students determine if they have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in Architecture.

To enroll in these classes, students must have already demonstrated an interest in the field. It is essential to avoid wasting time and money pursuing a career that may not be a good fit.

Many students drop out of Architecture school because they lack the discipline to handle constructive criticism or are not mature enough to work in a team or under pressure.

By completing the first three phases, students will have a good portion of the portfolio material required for their college application.

By completing both intermediate and advanced levels, students will be well-prepared to handle their first two years of studio classes at architecture schools without any stress, as they will be confident to know they are ahead of the game.

"Having a portfolio of this caliber will equip students to land a paid internship or a job as an Architectural Designer Level One during their first year of college. This implies that students can earn income while studying, enabling them to fund their future careers."

DESIGN STUDIO:

DESCRIPTION:

1

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO -  (8 WEEKS)

(Middle School Students)

Price: $600

CLASS DURATION: 1 HOUR

MEETS: WEEKLY

Throughout the course, students will learn to answer various questions related to Architecture, such as understanding what Architecture is and identifying different building typologies. They will also learn how to conduct site surveys and create conceptual physical 3D models. Additionally, students will explore their personal interests and desires in designing and building.

2

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 101, 201, 301  - (20 WEEKS TOTAL)

(High School Students/Young Adults under 24)

$1,250 per Course (ARCH 101/ARCH 201)  $1750 (ARCH 301)

CLASS DURATION: 2.5 HOURS

MEETS: WEEKLY

Students will acquire proficiencies to articulate a concept and formulate a program for it. They will have the ability to produce a Schematic Design set of drawings based on their program. The challenges that accompany the Design Development phase will be addressed and students will acquire the skills to proficiently solve them. Upon completion of these three classes, students will be equipped to generate Architectural Drawings.

3

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 401 & 501 - (16 WEEKS TOTAL - 8 Weeks per course) (High School Students/Young Adults under 24)

$2,000 per Course

CLASS DURATION: 2.5 HOURS

MEETS: WEEKLY

Students must bring their own Laptop and have downloaded the free AutoCAD & Revit Architecture Student Version from Autodesk.

Here are some questions your teenager will be able to answer: Can you read blueprints? Can you use AutoCAD or Revit to elaborate on construction drawings?

4

2D ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING - AUTOCAD** (2 Days)

(Ages 17-24)

$1,250*

CLASS DURATION: 8 HOURS TOTAL (SPLIT INTO 2 DAYS)

MEETS: CUSTOMIZED

In this course, students will learn how to utilize AutoCAD software to create 2D architectural Drawings. Students will commence by selecting a building type of their preference, whether it be a Residential Building, a Commercial space, a Medical Building, or an Animal Shelter, a Fire Department, among others. The course is designed to equip students with fundamental skills for generating Architectural Drawings. Although not every commands within the program will be explored, students will be taught the essential drawing tools for creating basic-level Architectural Drawings.

Topics the students will learn:

  • Basic Drawing & Editing Commands

  • Drawing Floor Plans, Elevations, Sections, Ceiling Plans, Furniture/Equipment Plan, etc.

  • Creating Drawing Templates (Title Sheets)

  • Working in Layouts & on Viewports

  • Organizing Drawings to create a Print PDF file

  • Dimensioning & Annotations

5

3D MODELING - REVIT ARCHITECTURE** (2 Days)

(Ages 17-24)

$1,600*

CLASS DURATION: 8 HOURS TOTAL (SPLIT INTO 2 DAYS)

MEETS: CUSTOMIZED

Learning Revit Architecture, a Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool, is invaluable. This customized course focuses on teaching students how to create a Conceptual Design of a 3D building model. Demonstrating proficiency in this program can lead to internship opportunities at Architecture firms, as it is commonly used in the industry.

Topics the students will learn:

  • Conceptual Massing

  • Converting the Massing into a Building

  • Creating Perspective Views, Exploded Views, and Producing Basic Renderings

  • Prepare basic Architectural Drawings into Sets

  • Prepare Floor Plans, Ceiling Plans, Elevations, Sections, Legends, Schedules, and more!

*I also offer these two classes to adults 24+ years old at an additional $1,000 per course.

**Students must bring their own Laptop and have downloaded the free AutoCAD and Revit Architecture Student Version from Autodesk.

The following classes follow a typical sequence of the Design Process. All Drawing Sets are hand-drawing unless the student already knows AutoCAD.

Computer Programs will be introduced on ARCH 401 & ARCH 501.

ARCH 101 - 6 Weeks (Phase 1):

As part of their coursework, students will be taught how to develop and refine their ideas. This involves conducting research to identify relevant precedents, creating diagrams to communicate their concept, and ultimately producing a final Schematic Design Drawing Set. In addition, students will be required to create a physical 3D model of their concept, which they will need to fund themselves.

ARCH 201 - 6 Weeks (Phase 2):

As part of their coursework, students will advance their Schematic Design drawings in order to create a Design Development Drawing Set. Throughout this process, students will confront and overcome self-made challenges, which will foster their critical thinking skills, attention to detail, ability to receive constructive feedback, and capacity to respond to design obstacles similar to those encountered in the real world. Additionally, students will independently continue to refine their 3D model.

ARCH 301 - 8 Weeks (Phase 3):

Introducing “A Taste of Architecture”, a program designed to provide students with a strong grasp of technical skills needed to produce Floor Plans, Elevations, Sections, and Perspectives. Upon completion, students will showcase their unique abilities and personal interpretation of Architecture through a final output. To conclude the course, students will be tasked to finalize their physical 3D model and prepare a presentation boards for portfolio purposes.

ARCH 401** - 8 Weeks

Students will learn the basics of AutoCAD to elaborate basic Architectural Construction Drawings. They will progress from their Design Development Set to creating a basic Construction Document Set. Typically, these skills are not taught till the 3rd or 4th year of their education. My aim is to offer this valuable unique opportunity to young people so that they may advance in their careers and secure internships or jobs earlier than usual if they so desire.

Students must bring their own Laptop and have downloaded the free AutoCAD Student Version from Autodesk.

ARCH 501** - 8 Weeks

Students who completed the 301 class, will learn the basics of Revit Architecture to create a 3D model and elaborate a basic Construction Document Set from their previous project. However, students may chose to start a different type of building. By now, they should have the ability to execute a new concept and program in a short time. Though, I would advice they continue with the same building so they can show the full process from beginning to completion.

**Students must bring their own Laptop and have downloaded the free Revit Architecture Student Version from Autodesk.

"The future of environmental justice should be introduced to the new generation the sooner the better, don't wait for the corporate and governmental system to force them to design for a living or kill their creativity. They deserve to shape the environment they want to live in."
